The Inspiration
The company was born to solve two very annoying problems. First, the daily struggle of working in an office and needing a quick, hot lunch without the hassle of meal-prepping or the steep cost of ordering delivery. Second, the late-night cravings long after the stores had closed and the fridge was empty. The solution came from an unexpected place: miles away from the nearest town. While backpacking through the high Andes of Peru and trekking across the volcanoes of Mexico, we would often reward ourselves with freeze-dried meals after a long, tiring climb. Then one day, the lightbulb went off. Why should the ultimate convenience of freeze-drying be restricted to the wilderness?
That realization sparked a period of research and development to create something that uses freeze-drying, but adapted for everyday enjoyment in an urban world. That was how the company got started with making meals perfectly suited for the office break rooms, schools, and busy homes.
"Era" was chosen with its dual meaning in mind. In English, it is a nod to an older era. A time when meals were made with straightforward ingredients and you didn't need a chemistry degree to read the label. In Spanish, era literally translates to "used to be". Together, they form our central promise: traditional honesty built for the fast-paced reality of today.
The Standards
To deliver on our promise, everything we do is guided by four distinct pillars:
Community: As a company founded in Texas, we understand that our state is beautifully diverse, but a shared palate of common classics helps bridge the cultural gap. We don't try to reinvent the cuisine or chase fleeting "fusion" trends. Whether it’s a nostalgic bowl of mac and cheese, creamy mushroom spirals, or our upcoming American soup collection, we intentionally focus on the shared favorites that taste like home for many Americans.
Convenience: Time is your most valuable asset. Our meals must fit into your schedule and flow, not the other way around. All recipes are ready in under five minutes.
No-Nonsense: Flip over any of our products, and you will see ingredients you actually recognize: pasta, cream, cheddar, mushrooms, salt, and pepper. Every recipe is created from scratch so we can control exactly what goes into it. You will never find preservatives, maltodextrin, yeast extracts, or artificial colors added just to make a package look brighter on a shelf. By utilizing the freeze-drying process, the method itself acts as the preservative, allowing us to skip the chemical shortcuts entirely.
Modesty: Good food shouldn't be a luxury item. We were raised by a working-class woman, so we are incredibly proud to serve working Americans, and we price our meals accordingly. We refuse to cut corners on ingredient quality to hit a price target. Instead, we keep our prices honest through operational efficiency, smart sourcing, and scale.
